THE GORDONSVILLE HERALD

December1, 2023

Hello Gordonsville Baptist Church Family!

As we begin Advent, it is a great time to begin a regular Bible reading plan! Advent is a season of preparation. Preparing our hearts and minds not only for Christmas but also for Christ’s return. Each week in the season of Advent we focus on Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love we have in and through Christ Jesus. Here are some scriptures to help focus on the topic of each week:

• Week 1, Hope: And again, Isaiah says, “The Root of Jesse will spring up, one who will arise to       rule over the nations; in him the Gentiles will hope.” May the God of hope fill you with all joy       and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy           Spirit. Romans 15:12-13

• Week 2, Peace: For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, EverlastingFather, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

• Week 3, Joy: “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.” John 15:9-11

• Week 4, Love: Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Matthew 22:37-39
